Ethiopia has been engaged in a cvil war for over a year now and the capital of Wello, Dessie, was captured by rebels along with neighboring towns. Due to the risk of attack by rebels, the miners in Wello have been unable to work and mine as they regularly would, disrupting both the supply of opal worldwide as well as their livelihood.
I'm happy to announce that last week the capital of Wello was liberated by Federal Forces and my community of miners have told me they have since gone back to work mining for Opal! Although the internal conflict is far from over all around the country, this is a positive development for the miners in Wello and great news to end the year. Happy Holidays to all you Opal Lovers and our community in Wello!
